What is a difference between Flies and a honey-bee?
Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa explains it as follows: "Flies sit at times on the sweetmeats kept exposed for sale in the shop of a confectioner;
but no sooner does a sweeper pass by with a basket full of filth than the flies
leave the sweetmeats and sit upon the filth-basket. But the honey-bee never sits
on filthy objects, and always drinks honey from the flowers. The worldly men are
like flies. At times they get a momentary taste of Divine sweetness, but their natural
tendency for filth soon brings them back to the dunghill of the world. The good
man, on the other hand, is always absorbed in the beatific contemplation of Divine Beauty."
Ask any young man – What is the goal of your life? He will tell you – Joy, Fun and Enjoyment is the goal of my life…because either he truly believes in that or he
just doesn’t know what else he should tell you. What is the definition of the joy he is seeking? - Family, Money, Power, Position, Name and Fame...the list is unending. People laugh at him if he talks about a lofty goal.
|
Joy, Fun and Enjoyment is the goal of their life! |
Now ask the same question to an old man who has lived a successful life to its fullest
extent. He will tell you "Been there, Done that!…..I ran
after all those things and tried to have fun out of them…but there was none". You will receive the same answer from every old man....unless he is too bitter about life or if he is still
living under state of illusion (there are many, believe me)
The same old man tells his son to keep running after the same things anyway. Why does he do that?...because he doesn’t know what else he should tell his son...because the old man has never really tested the “Eternal Joy” or “Joy that does not turn sour”. Position is an intoxicant. Power is an intoxicant. A little power or position
makes him proud. He never knows or believes there is something called eternal peace and happiness that exist in this universe. Therefore, everyone is running…must keep running…after that Joy…after that Enjoyment....that “illusion of joy” which lasts for few minutes before everything turns sour again, the "Joy" that never really exists in the first place. There is nothing in this
world, though there are flowers, mountains and oceans. With all these things, there
is always scorpion bite, mental pains, disease and old age. All pleasures are mixed
with pain, disease, and vices. You cannot find real happiness in this world.
One fine morning the old man dies. Now, the son takes his place. The son tells his son “Keep running after that Joy…My Dad did not get it, I did not get it…So what? You might find it!….Keep running please…after Woman, after Money, after Wealth, after Power, after Status and so on”
This is the story of the lost world!
This is how beliefs are built and passed on, from one generation to the other, from one person to the next, almost like the torch relay. The person forwarding the light to you never saw the finished line, he simply gave you the torch because either his time was up or he was tired…and you will eventually give the torch to the next generation because either your time is up or you are tired.
Everyone's concept of joy and object of enjoyment may be different but the unending
desire of seeking more Joy is common to all. Everyone is running after the same
imaginary Joy...the Joy that eventually everyone realizes was never really there.
(In spiritual world it is called Maya - grand illusion of mind.)
The fact is - This is a Lost World! The funny thing is when two people are lost, they feel less lost, when a group is lost, it does not consider itself lost at all. If one person is going in the right direction and rest of the group is going in the wrong direction - the definition of right and wrong has changed – everyone (going in the wrong direction) is suddenly considered to be in the right direction because they are together in the wrong direction
It is a sorry state that man lives in – everyone is running - Without even knowing the goal – The Real Joy – The Bliss, The Eternal Bliss where there is no trace of pain or misery!
This world is one confused chaos!
Stop running and start thinking…if ever you wish to attain that Eternal Blissful state.
How long it will take to attain the Bliss, you ask? Look at the tree outside your window, and count the leaves on that tree. That many lives you will need to walk (not run) towards the Divine (absolute purity) before you attain the Bliss. That too, if you start earnestly today!
If you are seeking that eternal Bliss please remember one simple rule. Never run, You must walk! Because if you run you will get tired, you will give up! Keep walking one step at a time. Stop many times, think and contemplate! After some period of time you will notice there is someone walking with you. Who is that? It is him! Now he will be with you as long as you can keep up your spirit. You may fall down many times, but don’t give up because he will always be there to help! He is there to protect you
in difficult times! He will give you a helping hand but he will not carry you there, you must take every step of this journey. Keep walking the way you can. He will guide every time you will need his
guidance.
....and if ever you give up, he will still be waiting for you to return! He is God, She is your Divine Mother!

Once upon a time there was a traveler who had to pass through the woods to get to another town. It so happened, he lost his way in the jungle. He navigated in all the directions but found himself in no better position. Each time he thought he was getting somewhere, he found himself deeper in the woods. Confused and confounded, he went through a series of emotions. He prayed, he cried, he cursed, he rested. Another few hours passed, shadows became long, the sun was beginning to hide behind the trees. The lost traveler got scared and worried thinking spending the night in the jungle. He was thirsty and tired.
In the hope of finding his way, he continued to range the forest without success. His anxiety was getting worse. Just when he thought he would never get out, he saw a man sitting under a tree. His joy knew no bounds, his anxiety turned into excitement. He ran to the man.
"Oh my God, oh my God! You are God sent! I'm so glad to find you here," he said in one breath. "I've been wandering since morning. I am lost. I thought I would never be able to see any town ever again, I thought some wild animal would eat me alive tonight. You are my savior. You don't know what it means to me to see you here." Tears of relief streamed down his cheeks.
"It doesn't matter where you are headed," he spoke further, "please take me with you." He was done crying now. He was overjoyed and relieved.
The other man just chuckled. He went quiet for a few seconds before he said, "I'm equally relieved to see you, for I'm lost as well but after seeing you I'm not as scared now. Strangely, I'm not feeling lost anymore."
They both laughed out loud. Tears welled up too to release the pent-up emotions and anxiety.
"Oddly enough, me neither. I'm feeling much better too." And he sat down next to the man.
This is a lost world. The funny thing is when two people are lost, they feel less lost, when a group is lost, it does not consider itself misplaced at all. There is a sense of consolation, a feeling you are not alone. Such a feeling does not help you in finding your path, it does not assist you in any way, but you feel comforted. After all there must be a reason why others are doing what they are, they must have it figured out, and they must have thought of it all, thoughts like these offer you a false sense of security. The truth is they are as lost as you. In fact, you were not lost earlier, you were trying to find a way, you knew where you wanted to go but now you are really lost. Why? Because with all the lost people around you, you have accepted this to be the norm, you may have begun to believe that this is the way.
